Services will be held on Tuesday March 28, 2017 at St Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, Burien, Washington at 5:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held in mid May at the Excelsior Lutheran Church in Wilson, Kansas.
John Denton Montgomery, born April 6, 1931, Grand Island, Nebraska passed away March 22, 2017 at the age of 85 in Seattle Washington at the University Of Washington Medical Center. He attended schools in Nebraska and Colorado before moving to Goodland, Kansas. He attended Kansas State University, Manhattan and served in the United States Air Force in the 1950’s with the 42nd Recon Division as a Navigator in Spangdalen, Germany for 5 ½ years. John attained advanced degrees from Fort Hays Kansas State University and earned a Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 1980.
Dr. Montgomery was employed by Area Education Agency 6, Marshalltown as a School Psychologist, director of Early Child Intervention Project, and Supervisor of Psychological Services. Upon his retirement in 1996 he worked one year for the US Army in Kwajalean, Marshall Islands as school psychologist and clinical psychologist for the Kwajalean Hospital. In 2016 he moved to the Seattle area and attended St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Elks Club, VFW, American Legion and a Regional Commissioner in the Clan Montgomery Society of North America.
He is survived by his wife Dr. Janey Montgomery of Des Moines Washington, a daughter Jill ( Mark) Acocella of Glenview, Illinois and a son John Blue (Jackie) Montgomery of Normandy Park Washington; a brother James (Aurora) Montgomery of Oakdale, California, a sister Patricia O’Brien of Goodland Kansas and eight grandchildren: Joshua, Jacob, Noah, Kannon, Patton, Sophie and Allyson Acocella of Glenview, Illinois and Madeline Rose Montgomery of Normandy Park, Washington, as well as nieces Debra Hummingbird and Michelle Hartman and nephews Michael Breninger and Christopher O’Brien. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul Rothwell and Mary Isabelle Montgomery, a brother Jean Paul Montgomery, and a nephew Kirk Hartman.
Services will be held on Tuesday March 28, 2017 at St Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, Burien, Washington at 5:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held in mid May at the Excelsior Lutheran Church in Wilson, Kansas.
